FAQ

Here are some questions that we have been frequently asked. If you have any further question, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@volunteeringermany.com.

Who can apply?

Everyone between 18 and 27 years old upon arrival, currently living outside of Germany. You should have completed secondary school, vocational training, hold a higher education degree, or you are otherwise personally suitable. German or English is working language, so it is a must to speak either of one.
Write us a motivation letter!

Will there be somebody to meet and greet me at the airport?

Of course! Either someone from PEDIA will be at the airport welcoming the you, or another volunteer who can also give you some advice in living in Germany.

How will I live in Hamburg?

PEDIA provides for every volunteer a single room in an apartment. Kitchen and bathroom are shared with other volunteers or students. We choose safe neighbourhoods, where we would live ourselves.

Can I live by the pocket money only?

Well, it depends: If you like fancy restaurants everyday or go on travel every weekend – or if you cook by yourself or together with the other volunteers, having a great international meal and improving cooking skills.
PEDIA kindergartens offers breakfast and lunch during work, so you only have to prepare food for your free time. All our volunteers live very well with the pocket money, some could even save up and go on travel with it.

What if I get sick?

PEDIA provides a health insurance for the whole time being here. Just choose a doctor, the colleagues can help you. Your pocket money will not be cut.

What if I do not like the place I’m volunteering?

PEDIA is a open minded company, communication and honesty is very important to us. If you are not satisfied or if you have issues, you may always talk directly with us. We can find a solution for both sides. If you prefer to talk a third party, there is our partner AFS whom you can also approach.
If nothing works, the last step would be to cease the volunteer year.

What happens after my volunteer year ends?

We will be very sad. But we also invite you to contribute in your home country as an alumni and share your experience to others.

Can I prolong my volunteer year?

Sorry, but no. The federal volunteer program is limited to one year.

Why are you doing this?

PEDIA does this because we believe education is the key to a better world. Either in the early childhood, or as young adults or beyond – learning is a life time activity. Still, it should start from the beginning, the children and we can learn from you, and you can learn from the volunteer year.
